Fascinated by Historic Cemeteries? Love Vermont History?
Join the Shaftsbury Cemetery Committee and members of the Vermont Old Cemetery Association on Saturday, October 2 at 9 am for a fun, educational day of restoring many of the historic stones in one of Shaftsbury’s most prominent cemeteries.
VOCA members will lead volunteers in straightening, repairing and cleaning some of the oldest stones in the Shaftsbury Center Cemetery, located on Route 7A next to the Baptist Meeting House. In addition to working to preserve and protect these symbols of Shaftsbury’s heritage, volunteers will learn how to properly care for their own ancestor’s monuments, will discover the prominent and interesting Shaftsbury residents buried in this beautiful cemetery and learn a bit about the meaning of the graphics used on headstones.
Bring your work gloves, your enthusiasm, your curiosity (and a shovel, if you have one!) All other materials will be provided, along with lunch and snacks. For more information call Kathy at (802) 375-4153.
