William Burnham's name appears on in a record from Thedford, 15th August, 1777, as one the men who went to Strafford under Capts. Bush and Boardman. A return of the Men's names, with account of the number of horses that went from Norwich under Capt. Timothy Bush, Capt. Boardman and Lt. Burton to assist the Strafford people in their retreat. He was in service three days. State of Vermont Rolls in the Revolutionary War 1775-1883, J.E. Goodrich 1904 pg. 22.

William is on a Pay Roll of Capt. Timothy Bush's Company under the direction of Col. Peter Olcott at the time the enemy came to Royalton, Oct. 16, 1780. His date of service commenced Oc.t 16 and lasted for 3 days. He traveled 40 miles. State of Vermont Rolls in the Revolutionary War 1775-1883, J.E. Goodrich 1904 pg. 258.

He is on a Pay Roll of Capt. Timothy Bush's Company of Militia employed in guarding and scouting at Strafford, at the time of the alarm at Newbury, under the direction of Col. Peter Olcott Oct. 19, 1780. He his rank was Corporal and was his time in service commenced Oct. 19 for a total of six days. He traveled a total of 24 days, from and back home. State of Vermont Rolls in the Revolutionary War 1775-1883, J.E. Goodrich 1904 pg. 281.

His name next appears on a Pay Roll of Col. Ebenz Walbridge's Regt. commanded by Wm Dyre, captain, for services scouting, etc. at and in the vicinity of Fort Ann, Aug. 4th, 1781, the service being done in pursuance of order from his Excellency the Governor. He spent 4 days in service and traveled 60 miles. State of Vermont Rolls in the Revolutionary War 1775-1883 J.E. Goodrich 1904 pg. 413.
