Frances Matteson's name appears on the PayRoll of Capt. William Dyre's Company in the service of the State of Vermont, from Oct. 12th to the 6th day of Nov. 1780. both days included. He was paid 1.13.4.

Frances Matteson's name appears on the PayRoll of Capt. Downer's Militia in Col. Ebenezer Walbridge's Regiment called to Castleton by reason of alarm in the month of October 1781. He served from Oct. 12th Oct. 25th and was gone 13 days. He traveled 53 miles and was paid 1.15.

Private Fran. Matteson's name appears in a manuscript volume, found among the before-mentioned Vermont Papers, but without further indications as to what State or Regiment the six companies belonged. A comparison of the names contained in it with names in the U.S. Pension rolls has convinced the Editor that these troops were of the Vermont Militia.
