Mrs. Clark Stone's maiden name was Rhoda Ann Harrington. She was born 27 August 1829 in Shaftsbury to Numan Harrington and Rhoda R. (Stratton) Harrington. She was one of seven children. Laura Harrington (1812-1814), Susan (Harrington) Hawkins (1815-1876), Charlotte (Harrington) Griffis (1817-1898), Sheldon Harrington (1920-1904), Joel Harrington (1823-1905) and Numan Harrington (1827-1895). Joel Harrington (BLOCK #8) and Mrs. Clark Stone were brother and sister.
Clark Stone was born to Eli Stone and Phoebe (Marble) Stone. He was born 6 May 1826 in Shaftsbury. He was one of ten children. His siblings were Martin (1825- 1895), Perry (1827-1864), Sally (1832-1837), Jane (Stone) Taft (1833-1880), Infant Son (1836-1836), Emily (Stone) Taft (1836-1890), Sophia Phebe (Stone) Corey (1838-1905), Mary (Stone) Elwell (1840-1885) and Angeline (Stone) Coulter (1844-1897.
Rhoda and Clark were married 13 Jul 1848. In the census of 1850 Rhoda Ann (20) was living with her husband, Clark Stone (24), her brother Newman Harrington (24) and her mother Rhoda Harrington (50). Rhoda and Clark's only child Edgar was one. Her father had passed 4 May 1848 two months before she married. Rhoda and Clark's only child Edgar was born 10 July 1849 and died 9 May 1852 at the age of two with no cause of death listed on his death certificate. Edgar has a headstone with his grandparents Eli and Phoebe (Marble) Stone in Maple Hill Cemetery and he is also named on the stone monument in Center Shaftsbury with his parents. They had no other children.
According to the Census of 1880 Rhoda (50) was a dutiful daughter and took care of her mother until her passing on 19 January 1885 at the age of 93. Rhoda and her husband Clark (53) both die shortly after this census was taken.
Clark died 8 November 1898 from cancer of the colon. Rhoda passed away 17 July 1900 from cancer of the uterus. She was 70 years 10 months and 5 days old. They are buried in Center Shaftsbury Cemetery. When the quilt was signed Clark was 62 years old and Rhoda Ann was 59. He died a year after the quilt top was signed and she died two years later.
