Capt. Peleg Matteson

There were four Matteson brothers from Shaftsbury who were Green Mountain Boys. They were:
Capt. Peleg Matteson, Capt. Peter Matteson, Capt. Phillip Matteson (buried in Buffalo, NY) and Benjamin Matteson (buried in Manchester Center, VT)
Capt. Peleg Matteson served with Captain Jonas Galusha's Company in Col. Herrick's Regiment for service done in the alarm in Oct.1780. He served 14 days and traveled 110 miles.

Capt. Matteson had his own company of Militia with thirty-five men. He led them on an expe-dition to the Northeast, Shaftsbury, 1782. He was in service 15 days and traveled 55 miles.
