DATE: Friday, September 4, 2026
TRAFFIC IMPACT AND DURATION: Crews will be off-site on Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day.
From Wednesday, September 9, through Friday, September 11, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., intermittent shoulder closures will be in place along Vermont Route 7A (VT 7A) between its intersections with U.S. Route 7 (U.S. 7) at Exit 2 in Bennington and Vermont Route 313 (VT 313) in Arlington. Intermittent shoulder closures will also occur along VT 313 between its intersections with VT 7A and the U.S. 7 ramps at Exit 3 in Arlington. A uniformed traffic officer will accompany this mobile work zone. No traffic impacts are expected within the project areas on U.S. 7 south of Exit 3 next week.
Important notice: These projects will require a full closure of U.S. 7 between Exit 2 in Bennington and Exit 3 in Arlington for 14 days. During the closure, traffic will be detoured via Vermont Route 7A and Vermont Route 313. The U.S. 7 closure is currently scheduled from 7 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, to 7 a.m. on Saturday, October 3. Traffic Alerts will be issued before the closure period to confirm the schedule and provide further details about the detour route.
CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES: This week, the contractor is installing the portable changeable message boards to give travelers more than two weeks' advance notice of the upcoming U.S. 7 closure. Next week, crews will continue preparing the access road and both project sites for upcoming culvert installation. The contractor will also continue mobilizing equipment and stockpiling materials at designated staging areas. From Wednesday through Friday, the signage subcontractor is scheduled to install detour route traffic control signs along VT 7A and VT 313 between Bennington and Arlington. In addition, off-site fabrication of the precast concrete culverts is nearly complete ahead of the planned U.S. 7 closure.
LOCATION: On U.S. Route 7 in the Town of Sunderland, approximately 0.5 miles and 1.1 miles south of its junction with Vermont Route 313.
