PFAS Water Updates
PFAS: A General Overview
PFAS on the move
- Atmospheric Deposition (dry or wet)
- Flushed through soil during rain events or snow melt
- Move through cracks in the subsurface (fractures) that are preferential pathways
- Surface water
- Groundwater
Current standard* in Vermont: 20 ppt for the Sum of 5 PFAS compounds
Once released into the environment, PFAS can move using a variety of pathways:
through the air, soil, and water. If it enters the atmosphere, it can return to the ground surface during rain or snow events, even as dust impacting soils and groundwater
which eventually results in impacts to drinking water.
