Bennington Roundabout Project
Current Updates:
DATE: Friday, October 17, 2025
TRAFFIC IMPACT AND DURATION: From Monday, October 20, through Friday, October 24, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., traffic will be maintained on the temporary southern alignment of VT 67A near Silk Road, with instances of alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers during concrete work within the outer ring of the peanut roundabout. Drivers are advised to slow down, use caution, and pay attention to flaggers and signage.
College Drive and Matteson Road (Rice Lane) are closed at their intersections with VT 67A, with traffic maintained via signed detour routes until mid-November, with the potential for an earlier reopening date. Supplemental notices will be issued upon the reopening of College Drive and Matteson Road at VT 67A.
Drivers traveling on VT 67A near its intersections with College Drive and Matteson Road are being detoured south to Vermont Route 279 eastbound, then north on U.S. Route 7, exiting at Exit 2 onto Vermont Route 7A south to reach Rice Lane and then Matteson Road. To reach Bennington College, drivers will continue north on Matteson Road to Harlan Road.
Drivers leaving Bennington College should follow College Drive (Jennings Drive) to Harlan Road, then Matteson Road to Rice Lane. From there, they should head north on VT 7A, merge onto U.S. 7 southbound, take VT 279 westbound, and exit onto VT 67A. See the detour map below for more details.
Truck traffic is advised that the covered bridge on Silk Road near VT 67A has a vehicle height restriction of 10 feet 6 inches.
CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES:
Next week, crews will continue with granite curb installation and concrete placement for the sidewalk, splitter islands, and the inner and outer rings of the peanut roundabout on VT 67A at its intersections with College Drive and Matteson Road. All concrete work is weather-dependent. There is potential for paving operations to take place along VT 67A within the project limits on Friday.
