Shaftsbury Elementary School Partners with Trex Company to Launch Community Plastic Recycling Program
Posted: September 28, 2024
Shaftsbury – In a joint effort to promote environmental responsibility and community engagement, Shaftsbury Elementary School has partnered with the
Trex Company to launch a new plastic recycling initiative.
This innovative program encourages community members to collect plastic items, such as plastic pellet bags, shopping bags, and other flexible plastics, and bring them to participating schools.
The collected plastics will be recycled by Trex and transformed into durable benches, which will be donated back to the community.
The program offers a simple, yet impactful, way for families and community members to contribute to a cleaner environment while supporting their local schools. By
collecting specific types of plastic that are not always accepted in traditional recycling programs, the initiative helps reduce waste and promote sustainability.
How It Works:
- Community members collect clean and dry plastic bags and film, such as grocery bags, bread bags, and plastic packaging from consumer products.
- Drop off the collected plastics at the Shaftsbury Elementary School.
- The school will deliver the collected plastics to for recycling to Trex.
- For every 1000 pounds of plastic collected, the school will receive a Trex bench made from the recycled materials.
The program is easy to participate in and encourages hands-on learning about the importance of recycling, waste reduction, and environmental stewardship. Trex is known for its innovative use of recycled plastics in their products, including decking and outdoor furniture, making them a perfect partner for this community-focused initiative.
Together, let’s make a difference - one plastic bag at a time!
