Grass Mountain Winter Update
Posted: February 10, 2026
The timber operations at Grass Mountain have ceased for the winter. Due to winter conditions, including frozen soils and snow cover, close out work will occur during the summer or earlier if needed, which is typical for winter logging. Some temporary structures have been left in place to minimize disturbance, like the sill logs for the stream crossing because the loggers need access to do the remaining closeout work. Closeout work includes reshaping the skid trails and removing temporary structures. They will also barricade and grade each of the landings.
The forester responsible for the sale will be on site throughout the spring. There will be a crew planting in some of the treatment areas this spring. The Ruffed Grouse Society plans to host a day for the community to plant or put shelters around the oak seedlings. It is open to the public, and it will be a great opportunity to learn more about the stewardship project and the other restoration work happening.
