Helpful Information for Understanding Your Property Tax Bill

Property tax bills can sometimes be confusing, especially when they include education taxes, municipal taxes, homestead adjustments, and other important information. To help residents better understand how property taxes work in Vermont, the Vermont Department of Taxes has provided a helpful guide that explains the information found on your tax bill. The Town of Shaftsbury prints this information on the reverse side of your tax bill every year.

Whether you are a first-time homeowner or a long-time resident, this little guide can help answer many of the questions our Treasurer receives throughout the year. We encourage all property owners to take a few moments to review this information and become familiar with the details that affect their property taxes.
