The Great Shaftsbury Summer Challenge - Sponsored by the Shaftsbury Historical Society

Again this year the Historical Society is running the Shaftsbury Great Summer Challenge!

JOIN US FOR THE GREAT SHAFTSBURY
9 WEEK SUMMER CHALLENGE
SPONSORED BY THE SHAFTSBURY HISTORICAL SOCIETY

What: Each week you are asked to visit the Shaftsbury Historical Society's Facebook page and post a photo of an historical place in Shaftsbury.

Why: Each family who posts a photo will be entered into a random drawing to win the prize of the week.

When: Weekly starting June 24th- August 25th, 2024

Who: Anyone who visits Shaftsbury.

For those who enter all nine challenges there will be a special drawing for $50

Week #1: June 24th -June 30th
CHALLENGE: Visit the Galusha Homestead and post a photo of you and/or your family sitting on the front porch or lawn.
PRIZE: Punch Pass for 10 Visits to Lake Shaftsbury ($30 value)

Week #2: July 1st - July 7th
CHALLENGE: Visit the Shaftsbury War Memorial and post a photo of you and/or your family at the site. (Hint: Cole Hall)
PRIZE: $20 gift certificate to Clearbrook Farm.

Week #3: July 8th -14th
CHALLENGE: Visit the home of a famous Shaftsbury poet. Post a photo of you and/or your family at the site.
PRIZE: $20 gift card donated by Paulin's Garage.

Week #4: July 15th - July 21st
CHALLENGE: Visit the grave of a famous Shaftsbury quilt maker. Post a photo of you and/or or your family at the site. (Hint: Center Shaftsbury Cemetery near the Tunic Road entrance.)
PRIZE: 2 adult tickets to the Bennington Museum, children under 17 are free.

Week #5: July 22nd – July 28th
CHALLENGE: Visit one of the oldest cemeteries in Shaftsbury and take a photo of you and/or your family at the site of a Revolutionary War soldier. (Hint: Maple Hill Cemetery)
PRIZE: Tickets to the Bennington Battle Monument .

Week #6 July 29th – August 4th
CHALLENGE: Find one of Shaftsbury's oldest general stores and take a photo of you/and or your family on the front steps.
PRIZE: $10 gift certificate to the store.

Week #7: August 5th -August 11th
CHALLENGE: Visit a place that has a Green Mountain Boys flag or Vermont State flag and take a picture of it. (They don't have to be located in Shaftsbury)
PRIZE: A quart of Maple Syrup made Locally by the Loomis Family.

Week #8: August 12th – August 18th
Challenge: Visit one Shaftsbury's Fire Stations and take a picture of you/and or your family there.
PRIZE: A box of delicious cookies donated by Vermont Moonlight Cookies.

Week #9: August 19th -August 25th
Challenge: Visit a Shaftsbury Cemetery that has 23 Civil War Soldiers buried in it. Take a photo of you, or family beside one of these veteran's headstones. (Hint: corner of Lambs Road and Barber St. and look for GAR)
PRIZE: four tickets to Bennington Cinema
