Southshire EMS Stabilization Report

The Southshire EMS Stabilization Alternatives Report looks at the challenges facing emergency medical services in Bennington, Pownal, Shaftsbury, and Woodford and explores several possible ways to provide reliable EMS service into the future.

The report notes that rising operating costs, staffing challenges, fewer volunteers, and changes in how EMS is funded have made it increasingly difficult for the existing system to remain financially sustainable. The situation is particularly challenging for the Pownal Rescue Squad, which the report identifies as facing significant financial pressure in the near term.

This is an important and sensitive issue for our communities, and there will be an opportunity for residents to learn more, ask questions, and share their thoughts before any final decisions are made. This report will start a discussion at the next select board meeting on October 5th and will be put to voters on the ballot in March.
